WSIS 2022: Chairman Pantami Presides over High-Level Ministerial Meeting

In the capacity as Chairman of the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum 2022, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Federal Republic of Nigeria 🇳🇬, Prof. Isa Ali Ibrahim (Pantami) chaired and presided over the high-level ministerial roundtable meeting of over 193 ITU member countries in Geneva, Switzerland.
The ministerial meeting was strictly attended by Ministers and Deputy Ministers from the member countries. Also in attendance were the Secretary General of the International Telecommunication Union (ITU), Mr Houlin Zhao and the Assistant Director-General for Communication and Information, UNESCO,
Dr Tawfik Jelassi.
The meeting provided an opportunity for policymakers from across the globe to discuss critical issues about ICT, interact, network, and share experiences and knowledge to deepen the growth of ICT across the globe.
In his opening remarks, Chairman Pantami emphasized the need for collaboration to advance ICTs for Well-Being, Inclusion and Resilience globally.
Minister Pantami describe ICT as a key enabler of a digital economy and further stresses the importance of having a win-win relationship, maintaining that ICT globally cannot be developed in silos.
Earlier in his remarks, the Secretary General of ITU, Mr Zhao called for more investments in ICT globally.
Mr Zhao identified 4 key areas namely Infrastructure; Investment; Innovation and Inclusiveness. He maintained that deploying ICT in those areas will help improve standards of living.
